Making an picture into a
fraction
This is a pie that shows a fraction.
There are eight total parts to this fraction. So if
you were to separate all of the slices there would be eight slices in total.
This in the number that would go in the bottom of
denominator. So the fraction would look like x/8. The number of the total
pieces will always be shown on the bottom when you are writing a fraction.
Of those eight slices how many of them are shaded?
Since four parts of the image are shaded we need to
put that number on the top of the fraction or the numerator. The number of
shaded pieces will always go on the top of the fraction. The fraction will now
look like 4/8
We have successfully turned that image into a number
fraction! Good job! Now can you do it with other images?
